There have been lots of parties over the years who have reacted to electoral defeat by choosing to swing away from the centre rather than towards it, apparently believing that their problem was not being extreme enough. UK examples include Labour choosing Michael Foot in 1980, the Conservatives choosing William Hague in 1997, Labour choosing Jeremy Corbyn in 2015 and now the Conservatives and Kemi Badenoch. Generally the longer the party is out of power the more they regret that, so a second defeat will no doubt be enough to knock some sense into the Tories and have them reaching for the middle ground; the trouble for them is that it is possible they will have been annihilated by then. One can but hope.

If Nationalism means running the govt in the National Interest then the Tories do not have any option than to be Nationalist. The public outside of the' woke establishment' are fed up with UK govts prioritising global capitalism ,global environmentalism or global human rights ahead of the national interest.
