The elephant in Britain's political room is Brexit. I appreciate you may not want to comment on that, but the current political environment generated by Trump makes Brexit look an even worse deal than it seemed at the time. If Starmer has the courage to say that we need to reverse pretty much all of Brexit, he could start to rally the potential Liberal vote.

A very interesting analysis. Labour has been remiss in not reintroducing a preferential voting system- particularly for mayors. In multiparty politics on low turnouts, FPTP is a very poor system. Local government is a mess in England. We'd be better off using the Scottish and NI STV voting system for local elections. We could also simplify things by deeming the Mayor to be the leader of the largest party in metropolitan borough elections. We have a parliamentary tradition; not a directly elected executive system in this country.
