You are right. They won't do what's needed. Why? Natural caution, fear of the RW press, lack of imagination, an innate "small c" conservatism which seems to be part of British culture, and, another aspect of the UK, the cringe towards the US, which I think comes from a British refusal to see the European countries of similar size to us as equals, and which hopes somehow vicariously to have some of the lost glories of Empire by being the world's new Imperial Power's gofer. An Imperial Power which is now rapidly losing out to China

Reasoning could also be applied to the fiscal framework at least with respect to the investment rule.

If only, superbly argued. Every time I think of Rachel Reeves (depressingly too often), I see her over-shadowed by the Grim Reaper with the words fiscal rules etched on his blade.

Many speculators believe Argentina will get growth rates of 8%.If they do then slashing the civil service and regulations would be the way forward irrespective of re-joining the single market etc
